“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” So says Mark 10:45. To me, this seems to be the verse that serves as a topic sentence for the rest of the Gospel. Jesus modeled for the disciples, and for us, the exact nature of service that He calls us. Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice. He exhibited the ultimate nature of service. Jesus’ act of service stands in great contrast to James and John who sought a special place of honor. Jesus’ act of service stands in great contrast to the money changers in the Temple.
If we are going to be like Christ, we are going to learn to serve rather than be served. What can you do today to serve someone?
